Kalihi Waena Elementary School Overview

Aloha!   Welcome to Kalihi Waena Elementary School. Are you ready to start the school year with us?   Well, what are you waiting for let's take a glimpse on what our school has to offer. In the morning, we're are greeted by our wonderful Junior Police Officers, staff, and counselor Mrs. Fukuda who help guide our students and families at the drop off station near the cafeteria. Are you hungry? Let's get some breakfast. Our Cafeteria is fully staffed and ready to go to make sure we are fueled for a full school day. When School starts, teachers happily greet us one by one. Ms. Ramos in fourth grade has her students say hello in different languages and "air signs" to maintain social distancing. Every Monday, the whole school gets together to sing our Oli or chant to recognizes and shows thanks to what surrounds us what's around us in our Ahupua'a. Big thanks to our Kumu Mrs. Tengan for being one of the composer's for our chant. Ms. Pillittieri in 5th grade has her students proudly recite our pledge of allegiance. And every morning, just like Mrs. Ahn's 2nd grade class we practice mindfulness through Brain Breaks. Throughout the day we independently work on our iReady program for reading and math.  Just like Mrs. Shiira's 1st grade class. Our school has multiple spaces for us to gather and release our energy during recess. Good job keeping your mask on fellow peers! We also have many student support systems like are Gifted and Talented Enrichment Program, Response to intervention Pullouts, Special Education, and English Language Learner programs. In addition to our daily lessons our school is fortunate enough to have IRA time where we going to music library, computer, and Health or PE. We also have Social Emotional Learning programs like MindUP and Roots of Empathy. Of course we can't forget lunch. Throughout the year we also hold virtual assemblies keep us up-to-date with information or award recognition. Here's a little peek at what we do during our Assemblies of course we need to learn our General Learner Outcomes. At the end of the day, we get to go home. But wait just yet, did you know we have After-school program such as A+, tutoring, ballet jazz, and recently added our coding program. Kalihi Waena wouldn't be where we are today without our hard working and dedicated staff and administration. We are the Lions and we are the future.
