Welcome from our administration!

Principal Daniel Larkin
Welcome to another wonderful school year here at Kalihi Waena Elementary.  We are working through an unprecedented time of uncertainty and challenges and, although there will be difficulties to overcome, we will do it together!  For those of us who don't know me, I am Mr. Larkin, the extremely proud Principal here at Kalihi Waena, and am happy to have been so for the past four years.  Prior to that, I was the Vice Principal here for three additional years.  I am here because I believe that the Keiki of Kalihi Waena are some of the best students the state has to offer.  The hearts, kindness, and openness of the students here are only rivaled by the spirit, resilience, and drive they have.  This year we want everyone to Strive High with PRIDE that's the Lion Way!

PRIDE stands for Protection, Respect, Integrity, Determination, Excellence.  As we move forward with PRIDE this year we want to make sure our keiki are prepared for the future to be amazing citizens who uplift everyone around them. We do this by supporting their social and emotional needs.  If your child is in need of any emotional supports, please let us know.  We take students' mental health very seriously here.  We also take our staffs' mental health seriously.  If you are upset at a staff member for anything, please bring your concerns to me so I can address them.  We are all human here too and, as much as we seek to make no mistakes, some will inevitably be made with the pressures happening today.  We ask for pre-forgiveness and your continued understanding and support as we work together to provide the best possible situation for our Keiki.  Mahalo for all you do in supporting our school.  We will get through this because, We are the Lions. We are the Future!

Vice Principal Debra Heyler

Nǐ hǎo. Iọkwe. Ran Annim. Talofa. Mabuhay. Hello, and welcome back to school! It is wonderful to have our students back IN PERSON!  I love seeing them daily as I walk through the halls, in their classrooms, and eating their lunch in the cafeteria. I am so proud to be your vice principal! This is my third year at Kalihi Waena Elementary. Prior to becoming a vice principal, I was a social studies teacher for many years at Olomana School, a middle and high school on Oahu's windward side. Many people have told me what a loving and caring community we have at Kalihi Waena, and I have found this to be so true!
We are working hard to maintain a safe environment and create a caring place. Please know we continue to emphasize our safety measures of wearing a mask, except when eating or drinking, and washing hands frequently.  Our vision statement at Kalihi Waena is that we are committed to lifelong learning, student growth, and nurturing the whole child. We value your partnership as we live out our vision. Thank you for your support!
