Welcome from our administration!

Principal Daniel Larkin

Welcome, Lion's 'Ohana!

It is with immense pride and unwavering belief in our Keiki that I greet you. I have served Kalihi for many years, as a teacher at Kalakaua Middle School and as both Vice Principal and Principal here at Kalihi Waena for over 10 years. My dedication stems from a profound conviction: the students of Kalihi Waena are truly exceptional. Their hearts, kindness, and openness are matched only by their incredible spirit, resilience, and drive.

This year, and every year, we empower everyone to Strive High with PRIDE – the Lion Way!

Our PRIDE Values

PRIDE is the cornerstone of our community, standing for:

  • Protection

  • Respect

  • Integrity

  • Determination

  • Excellence

These values guide us as we prepare our Keiki to become amazing citizens who uplift everyone around them.

Nurturing Our Community

We are committed to supporting the holistic well-being of our students, which includes their social and emotional needs. Please know that your child's mental health is a top priority. Should your child need emotional support, please reach out to us. We also extend this commitment to our dedicated staff, recognizing that their well-being is crucial to our collective success.

In any thriving community, challenges may arise. If you have concerns regarding a staff member, I encourage you to bring them directly to me. We are all human, striving for excellence, and we deeply value your understanding and support as we navigate our journey together. Your partnership is invaluable in creating the best possible environment for our Keiki.

Mahalo for your continued dedication to our school. Together, we are an unstoppable force.

We are the Lions. We are the Future!

Nǐ hǎo. Iọkwe. Ran Annim. Talofa. Mabuhay. Hello, and welcome back to school! It is wonderful to have our students back IN PERSON!  I love seeing them daily as I walk through the halls, in their classrooms, and eating their lunch in the cafeteria. I am so proud to be your vice principal! This is my third year at Kalihi Waena Elementary. Prior to becoming a vice principal, I was a social studies teacher for many years at Olomana School, a middle and high school on Oahu's windward side. Many people have told me what a loving and caring community we have at Kalihi Waena, and I have found this to be so true!
We are working hard to maintain a safe environment and create a caring place. Please know we continue to emphasize our safety measures of wearing a mask, except when eating or drinking, and washing hands frequently.  Our vision statement at Kalihi Waena is that we are committed to lifelong learning, student growth, and nurturing the whole child. We value your partnership as we live out our vision. Thank you for your support!
