Quarter 4 Update #1

Aloha Lions Ohana,

I hope you are all having a great start to the 4th quarter. I know we are.  Today I have a number of great and important announcements.

  1. Tomorrow morning we will be giving donated portable desks for students to use at home to all students.  We are asking that all Kindergarten and 1st-grade student parents please pick up a desk at the cafeteria when you drop off your children.  We will be handing them out by the parking lot drop-off area.  For grades 2-5 we will be giving them to the students to take home.  These were all donated to our school for student use by Kamehameha schools.
  2. Our 3rd quarter awards assembly has moved to Wednesday, April 13th.  This assembly will be held virtually for parents but in person for students just like we did for the 1st quarter.  More information will follow
  3. Our Parent Workshop scheduled on 13 April has been canceled due to the Awards Assembly.
  4. Every Saturday, Chuuk Language and cultural schools have classes from 9 am to 12 noon at the KPT Building A room 117.  All students wanting to learn the Chuuk language/culture are welcome.
  5. It is Kindergarten registration time. If you know any child who will be age 5 by July 31st they MUST register for Kindergarten.  Our office can help you process their registration.
  6. Please remember that the official school drop-off area is by the cafeteria.  The upper school parking lot is NOT a drop-off area.  We have had a number of close calls by the entry areas by both gates.  Parents of walking students please enter only by the upper parking lot gate and the pedestrian gate by the Gulick Ave. bridge and NOT the cafeteria parking lot entrance.
  7. There is no school this Friday due to Prince Kuhio day.

Lastly, I wanted to go over a number of changes to our COVID protocols that have or will be happening.

  • Masks are no longer mandatory when outside, although still highly recommended.  Masking is still required indoors.
  • There will no longer be any mass announcements of any COVID cases, only class-by-class announcements given as paper announcements.
  • We will no longer be quarantining any close contact students and/or staff.  So, if your child sat by a student who tests positive they can still come to school, however, if students show any symptoms, regardless of exposure, they still have to quarantine for 5 days, get a doctor's note, or a negative test.
  • The barriers in the cafeteria are coming down tomorrow and will not go back up.
  • We will slowly begin to have more in-person activities.  Currently, we will plan to have two major in-person events this school year.  Our Hoike will be held outside with the whole school and our Aloha Assembly (aka 5th-grade graduation) will be held in the cafeteria.  Of course, this is only if everything stays as is.

It is my hope that as we relax restrictions we all keep in mind that general health and safety measures, plus masking, are what will keep us able to get back to normal.  Please keep yourselves and our Keiki safe because, We are the Lions. We are the Future!

Aloha,

Mr. Larkin
