Principal's Message to Parents (SY21-22, Q2 Update #4)

Aloha Lions Ohana,

Today was a wonderful day here at Kalihi Waena and I hope it was for you as well.  Just a few announcements today.

  1. Tomorrow is the last day of Parent-Teacher Conferences.  We will return to our normal bell schedule on Wednesday.
  2. On November 18th we will be hosting a COVID-19 vaccination clinic for all students.  We will send a sign-up form (which looks like the one for the flu clinic) on Wednesday.  Please return it as soon as possible, it will be due Wednesday, November 10th.
  3. Our WASC accreditation visit starts on November 15th and runs through November 18th.  We are asking for parent volunteers along with parent PTA members to join in a meeting with the visiting committee on November 16th at 4:00 pm.  You can join us online at meet.google.com/znk-nwfj-vjy
  4. We are in need of help during our lunch hour.  If you know anyone who can work from 10:45-12:30 daily please have them apply at the office.  The job is watching the students eat and escorting them to recess.  We take anyone of any age over 18.
  5. On Friday we will be holding our first quarter awards assembly.  Unfortunately, due to COVID, we cannot host it in person.  We will be holding it online at meet.google.com/ceh-fxyr-qvm and will be posting the recordings on our school website kwes.org.  You can watch live at the following times for each grade.
    1. 4th -- 8:15 - 8:35
    2. Prek/K -- 8:45 - 9:05
    3. 1st -- 9:10 - 9:30
    4. 2nd -- 12:30 - 12:50
    5. 3rd -- 12:55 - 1:15
    6. 5th --  1:20 - 1:40
  6. All students who go on trips outside the islands are subject to the SafeTravels quarantine rules which call for a 10 day waiting period after they return, or proof of vaccination, or COVID-19 test results. Please make sure that if you take a trip you plan for this event.
  7. Lastly, we are asking that all parents please remember that the upper parking lot by the office is not a drop-off or pick-up area for our Keiki.  There have been a few close calls in that parking lot lately.

That's it for today.  Mahalo to you all for everything you do!  The light at the end of the COVID tunnel is in view.  We will get there together because, We are the Lions. We are the future!

Aloha,

Mr. Larkin
