Welcome to our first ever our first annual or inaugural uh spelling bee competition and our third uh English Learners literacy night and we're going to start off this uh plan and go ahead and come up and get your your rapid tickets if you need them uh we're going to start off today with the kind of not so exciting stuff so that we can get that underway get that out of the way so we can have some exciting stuff with our Stone be competition we're going to be talking about our eeo comprehensive live English language Learners literacy plan so that is the plan that we have for all of our uh speakers of different languages whether it be talking garlic or chickpeas or marshmallow dialect to learn English while we're here um at a faster rate so they can get caught up and ready to go from middle school and high school and to introduce you and talk about that and bring it up our awesome wheel coordinator a girl let's give her a round of applause thank you for coming tonight and the purpose for tonight is our spelling being that we like to keep that to you our but for this year so of course our your plan is created by Mr Larkin my myself and Miss Heather so these are the goals you would like to have for our male students our goal number 1 is that our you know students will close the gap by 5% towards the staple of 70% and you will use data to measure those goals with data we're going to use is our I already our demos and our SBA scores our goal to is that we want our deal learners in Reading with the increase of 5% again we're still using our data from our I already I dibels in an SBA our go 3 is again our we have to be proficient in that by an increase of 3% and we're going to use the same measures to collect data if they can build a code for The Gap we also come in to improve in our science scores by 5% and we are getting our data from I already dippold SBA and hopefully our fourth and fifth graders will dwell on the science test so every year we take in the heel our access test so by the end of June 2026 which is next year we would like for our students who have a access for about 4.5 to reach 4.7 so they can exit the meal program and are your plan goes in line with our context area code so for our field we have a strategic goal for our fkk complex and it is it is part of an inclusive culture at our schools we want to ensure that all our student groups perform equally well academically show growth and that they are working toward believe that um we're doing this by providing RTI services with tier 2 and tier 3 instruction which means besides getting their instruction in whole class they will be closed out in special groupings to get individualized attention IST strategic goals for Access is that we we want our students to have a consistent framework for planning language objectives and we are doing this again with our Tier 1 instructional supports for y'all that means our Yale students are pulled out at least 2 times 4 to 5 minutes with a qualified siq Gail teacher for learning there's key features we want our students to have opportunities to engage in personal interactions we are providing open-ended questions and tasks with different perspectives for different methods of learning we provide a lot of oral language development through discussions and participation and we are also supporting our Learners with linguistic support through disciplinary language vocabulary I go 3 is that we want to build capacity for all our teachers School leaders to provide primary opportunities for those students and the only way how can I do this is if we have a partnership with our parents and that's through family engagement we provide to our parents all of our parents and our Neo parents monthly training meetings do our principal Coffee hours sorry I forgot what it was called and then we also do our TNC activities so hopefully with all of those initiatives we will help our Learners meet their goals thank you spelling bee participants come line up right here in numerical order so number 1 here 2 3 4 5 straight back as we're going to introduce our participants today while they line up would you like to uh talk about how this is going to flow today all right so this is a pretty straightforward uh spell thank you this is our first year trying this so we'll see how it goes uh hopefully it's something we can keep going on spell the word and then say the word they're allowed to ask for a definition here in a uh the idea is that uh they start to spell the word once they start spelling the word they have to continue all the way to the word uh if they make a mistake they will sit down all the way through the first round and then when the round is stage uh the route will just go all the way through all the numbers the 1 we cycle through all the numbers that'll be around 1 um and then we have prizes and then the top 2 will uh be entered into this is going to be where they asked to win photography because other schools and then mostly move on to the national spelling of showing their all right can we give him a round of applause for and uh in addition um before anybody leaves there's any kit that has to leave early I want every student leaving here with a book so you can come up get this donated books from donors choose and parents we have a lot of things on if you want to get back to the school that is a site that you can do so so for you ladies and gentlemen that'll come to the stage I want you to come up and say hi my name is and then say your name as you face everybody in the today but these are 50 Braves who showed up after going through some trials and tribulations to make sure they've been practicing so let's give them all a round of applause all right I'm going to turn over to our judges panel over there I want them to introduce themselves real quick and then I'll break the show on the road I will come turn on your microphone my name is Miss Charmin I'm 1 of the e in my head as well so for those of our our contestants up here who did not get it correct please wander on them here to this wonderful table and grab a book and then see and we'll have her this term almost forgot a step I apologize watch your heads folks students make sure you don't get hit suppose to do this it's like 1 of the required by laws I'm supposed to give all of my parents a way of or a bit of advice that is my job is to help teach you how to help teach your kids and so our first 1 and every round we have going today we're going to have a little bit of advice so today's uh first 1 there are many ways to support your children uh your multilingual children especially their spelling first 1 read bilingual books together so folks that have both languages because most of the languages have associations within also within your brain there are dendrites and neurons and they make further and stronger connections the more words they have and you can make those connections between the languages so they have a bit a better ability to learn I understand other languages later they're like all right let's continue on with our competition number 1 as soon as that goes up you kiddos are spelling uh you know out of it I've been bestowing dinosaur my entire life and I thought you'd have it right so and so just fine but 1 way that you can help your kids with writing and spelling is have your kids do real world all righty every day that you can such as shopping lists letters cards or texts to far away relatives don't let them texts in their Leo don't be like l o l and type out laugh cloud and all that stuff because I know for real it's not f r Yale or f r yeah yeah I'm looking at you I know I know I know you're speaking okay and our raffle ticket for this round is going to go to as soon as I get this thing turned off so I don't blind some kiddo paragraph ticket let's get our raffle tickets ready and ticket number 3631 3 361 I see a winner right there come and another uh skill thing too first thing let's try multi-sensory approaches okay multisensory is like doing it in a bunch of different ways so 1 thing is you can say it you see it spell it say it see it spell it you're going to say the word you're going to then look at the word and then you're going the word I think I've seen a bunch of people out there spelling of the palm of their hand with their fingers I know I have to do that all the time of course writing the words outside with sidewalk chalk sidewalk chalk is cheap and it free just wait till it rains you're good to go right all the words you want as long as they're not body words and of course you can write words on the at the beach in the sand and let the ocean wash them away it's a good way for them to keep practice rewriting stuff too now parents I have a quiz question for you well not a quiz question more of a survey question please raise your hand if you would have already been eliminated from this competition be honest who had gotten 1 or wrong okay okay hey we got a good spellers out there I see I see you all right we're going to see if you guys can make it all the way to the end of this competition uh our raffle prize this round is going to be going to number 2 or sorry 3 54354 but we got 354 who's got 354 check your ramp for tickets oh you have to be present oh I saw the hand raised did you got it all right go on and get your prize you guys get you get the ragi the potatoes and everything on the far left grab that and boys please wait till the screen goes up before it just has to be above your head before you I just don't want to knock anybody out let's move on to round number 4 number 1 tuxedo the groom or a Navy tuxedo with a bright orange bow tie i t o incorrect number 2 lurches can you use it in a Applause please make sure to stop and grab a book on your way down number 1 down 10 all right all right Secret dresses are very hard to sure we get the slideshow down but we're going to be talking about is encouraging growth mindset and curvy growth mindset that means having the belief that you can always grow from everything 3 minutes we don't have the correct answer on something you're going to grow from it so the next time you do the correct answer I know I've had many correct answers in my life just ask my wife all right so 1 of the things that does happen is learning happens when are made it feels safe with those mistakes we make mistakes all of the time in life not only um with our emotional stuff but with the work that we do who here has made a mistake at your job okay everybody needs to raise their hand yes Miss Tyler I know you did too um and so we we all make mistakes that's absolutely fine it's just to be attacking it and re going for it so encouraging that saying it's okay to me mistakes let's keep going this is an actual fact you can look at it from um also 3 search it takes about 10 to 15 tries before you can actually memorize a word 10 to 15 trees and that's not the spelling of the word really really that's just kind of understanding the word 10 to 15 tries to to have a pretty good chance to memorize the spelling and sometimes it takes hundreds of tries to get a really complicated word correctly so I still struggle with their their and there so don't be afraid right so let's keep moving on we got our next raffle drawing ticket is coming up we have uh this time it is Vienna sausage you're going to be grabbing from up there along with the potatoes the onions and the flower and this ticket is 359359 who has got 359 all right we got the winner right there we're down to the 3 tests of 1 of the stage let's see how can how we can go number 2 a week yeah no go ahead brandished can you use it in the Pirates brandished their muskets to the merchants through I was really close I still don't think I got the rights going into that in my head to be honest let's give him another round of applause how many number 12 all right don't forget to get your uh book right down there you also have for our third place winner we do have a gift certificate somewhere so don't forget to grab a book and then you can go over to the judges oh here we go we got our prize for our third place finisher of my local Amari allows me to call all right all right we are getting down to the wire we're about to start the sixth round uh before we do that I got a couple more things to say supporting language support spelling you got to talk to kids about a lot of different things especially about their interests just because you don't like it doesn't mean this is not worth knowing about okay I know a lot of you guys don't like a lot of the video games the kids are seeing these days talk about it explain things to them reach out to them it's a good way of doing that encourage them to share what today I remembering what they remember doing in school don't just say hey would you do today and let them go math and then walk away ask them a little bit more guiding questions what was your favorite fact that you learned about math what does the word that you struggled spelling with how can I help you with that spelling those kind of things and the number 1 thing you guys can do is to read to each other got to do that reading to each other on a routine basis don't just say go read a book go we we the book cuz them speaking it out loud let you correct things so you can see them say don't Let the Pigeon Drive the boo it is not a boo it is a bus or derived is not correct either you got to correct them as they're going along so that way the next time they can have it right and our second to last and the first bag of rice that's going to go home tonight second to last uh raffle ticket is 36 6366 all right sir to grow now there they are right over there right by the bags of rice all right congratulations as we get down to our final 2 contestants in round 6 I just want to state that if the first person gets this incorrect they are not necessarily out the next person will get the same word if you both get it incorrect you are both in so the rules change for the round number 2 please come forward democracy democracy correct number 5 to present to him and for our first place we're going to have Coach come on up and present the trophy and the gift card so parents come on up and let's get some pictures up here uh with our awesome winners Miss Tyler and our judges come up to the stage and whereas number 3 where's our third place that's how our third place person coming up here so we can get our first is coming up you're the judge you're supposed to be up here miss turning YouTube is turning come on and if you're a participant don't leave yet because we're going to get a picture with all you guys here all right Karen do applause well they're getting pictures contest that got first place in the contestant that got second place are also all going to the the Honolulu District uh fair or competition in January and then they're going to go on to uh if they win that they go on to the state competition if they win that they can go into the International Conference which is the scripts this is the official script spelling bee so if you're ever like looking on later in life about oh I wonder what they did it is the official script spelling bee that they competed in tonight so 1 last round of applause for these amazing kids and 1 of us for all the staff we came here to support them tonight let's thank you all and children especially the ones on stage after you get the the picture to fix your first picture first is still getting pictures all the children on stage please applaud your parents and family for coming and support you it is a great job so that being said I hope you all have a wonderful day
